I Am Hologram is the solo project of singer-songwriter Richard Nihil, a touring artist out of the Southwest making Psychedelic Folk with Dirtbag Poetry. Richard writes the songs, plays most of the instruments on the records, and performs live as a one-man acoustic jam band.
Since March 2021, Richard has lived and worked on the road, driving more than 150,000 miles through 47 states and Mexico and performing more than 800 times. Originally from Long Island, he spent more than 20 years in Phoenix and now calls Ruidoso, New Mexico home.
The live show is only one part of I Am Hologram. The recordings are not limited to the acoustic format of the stage show, and Richard's work also includes film, music videos, photography, drawing and other visual art.

“Has That Demon Always Been Standing Behind You?” is the first single of 2026 and the first release from the upcoming acoustic album First Place Loser. About six months ago, I started writing myself a lullaby to help deal with childhood trauma. That process became this song.
